Bass-baritone Philip Skinner has proven himself a highly versatile artist both dramatically and vocally. He has had great success singing roles ranging from the standard bass repertoire such as Philip Don Carlo and Basilio Il Barbieri di Siviglia, to Jocanaan Salome and Escamillo Carmen in the helden and dramatic baritone repertoire. In San Francisco Opera’s 2007-08 season, he performed the role of Edgar Ray Killen in the world premiere of Philip Glass’ Appomattox, as well as the Speaker in Die Zauberflute and Rambaldo in La Rondine.

His long association with San Francisco Opera began in 1985 and he has over 375 performances in 54 productions there including the Water Gnome Rusalka, Mephistopheles Faust, Escamillo, Ferrando Il Trovatore, and Colline La Boheme. Highlights of the most recent seasons include La Roche Capriccio and Zuniga Carmen at New York City Opera, Olin Blitch Susannah in Bergen, Norway, King Philip with Opera de Dijon, Escamillo with Seattle Opera, Jocanaan with Atlanta Opera, and Thibaut Joan of Arc with San Francisco Opera. Other roles include Figaro Le Nozze di Figaro and the Four Villains Les Contes D’Hoffmann with Houston Grand Opera and Il Conte Figaro, King Philip, La Roche, and Hagen Gotterdammerung with Opera de Nantes.

Happy Birthday, Paul Bowles

Ensemble Parallèle will participate in the celebration of Paul Bowles' 100 year birthday celebration by performing the West-Coast premiere of three works. Choreographer Tandy Beal joins the Ensemble for the occasion. (4th February 2011).
